Gallery: Ars Mundi, Nov 9

Sunday November 9: 7:00 to 10:00: Ars Mundi Opening. Arts of the World! A show of some of Hamilton’s artists from other lands. From Afghanistan to Venezuela, Japan to Iran. Algeria to Sudan. A preview of some of the artists who will be showing as part of our Opus Mundi Festival, last week in April, first in May. Gallery hours: 1 to 4, Wed-Sun; 6 to 8 pm Thurs and Fri. Crossing Lines: Poets Who Came to Canada in the Vietnam War Era. Allan Briesmaster and Steven Mickael Berzensky, Editors. The first major anthology of poetry by men and women who grew up in the U.S. and then emigrated to Canada during the 1960s and ‘70s. It offers surprising insights into that watershed period. (more…)

Carless cartoon exhibition, Thurs Oct 2, 2008

Carless_cover.jpgLabour and editorial cartoonist Roy Carless, 87, continues to draw evocative and funny pictures that summarize Canada’s weird and wonderful political scene. During the month of October, The Pearl Company is hosting a show of new Carless black and white drawings.

Join us for the Opening on Thursday October 2, 2008 at 7 p.m. in The Pearl Company’s gallery space. Come and view these new works and meet the artist. Buy a drawing. Buy a copy of Roy’s book, The Carless Cartoon Collection: Not Bad for an Old Bastard (2006, Seraphim Editions) and have Roy sign it. Refreshments. Everyone is welcome! A three-person show: “Hidden Treasures” focuses on Franklin Sinanan, Robert Fennell and Helga Morrison.
Franklin and Robert show and sell well outside of Hamilton but are hardly known in the city. Helga is starting out and is just beginning to be recognized. Come and see work never before shown in this area!
