(Matinees: Nov. 25@5:00pm / Dec. 2@2:00pm) Tickets: $20 / $15 students/seniors/un(der)waged. November 1921, in downtown Hamilton!  At the Lyric Theatre on Mary Street, a shooting occurred backstage during the run of a touring musical comedy vaudeville “girlie” act.  UNDER THE APPLE TREE is a brand new musical that explores a bit of bygone real life local history.  A ‘jazz era’ Hamilton, that is gone but not forgotten. It is is partly, a recreation of an actual musical comedy vaudeville act that toured the vaudeville circuits, in 1920 and 1921.  During its week long run in Hamilton, in late November of 1921, stage hand Jack Grubb, shot chorus girl Cecile Bartley, before turning the gun on himself.
The production features Susan Robinson, Chris Cracknell, Michelle LaHaise, Claire Shingleton-Smith, Erynn Garland, and Larry Smith, in its cast.   The music and songs in the play are all “tin pan alley” compositions circa 1918-1920. It is produced and directed by Brian Morton (winner of the 2013 City of Hamilton Arts Award for Theatre and Artistic Director of non-profit charitable foundation, Theatre Erebus Inc.).

Les Stroud: Musician! Thursday, October 25

Les Stroud: Musician! Thursday, October 25. Doors: 7:30pm. Show: 8:00. Tickets: $30 / $25 students/seniors/un(der)waged.  A Canadian survival expert, filmmaker and musician best known as the creator, writer, producer, director, cameraman and host of the television series Survivorman, Les LesStroud2_10_18Stroud has made a powerful name in the world of documentary film making, indeed starting an entirely new genre of TV, yet he comes by his music honestly. Since the age of 14 Stroud has been writing songs and studying musically. By 23 his music was being shopped to the likes of Bruce Springsteen and he was a published songwriter. Taking a break from music to concentrate on outdoor adventure Stroud eventually returned to his first love. He wrote and recorded all through the inception and eventual success of filming the Survivorman TV series, which included releasing 4 CDs as well as performing hundreds of concerts.
He has been nicknamed the “Hendrix of harmonica” for good reason. It is said Les plays the ‘harp’ like he’s playing a guitar; watching him live is awe-inspiring. Fusing modern technology with a powerful set of lungs, Stroud plays with a confidence and style that no other player captures today. Website: http://www.lesstroud.ca/music/
