Join vocalists Margaret Bárdos and Tonia Szkurhan and pianist Krista Rhodes as they take you on a musical journey exploring the themes of love and loss. They promise to make you laugh, to make you cry and to leave you with a big smile on your face, tapping your feet and wanting more. Krista Rhodes is an in-demand collaborative pianist renowned for her versatility and sensitivity. A graduate of McMaster University and the University of Toronto, She works with many professional singers and instrumentalists, voice studios, choral groups, music festivals, opera companies, and theatre groups as well as being an active solo performer. Krista is a respected music educator, vocal music program director, and adjudicator. She is currently the accompanist of the Bach Elgar Choir and the Canadian Orpheus Male Choir, has appeared with the international award-winning Hamilton Children’s Choir, and the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, and her compositions have been featured by HARPO productions. kristarhodes.com
Tonia Szkurhan trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, England where she received her degree in Acting Musical Theatre. UK credits include the rock opera Chains!; Jack and the Beanstalk; You Me Bum Bum Train; the musical I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change; and the movie musical, Punching Above Your Weight. As a solo singer, she has performed in many high profile cabarets and concerts throughout London. Tonia’s Canadian stage credits include Sondheim in September, Volcano Soup, The Velveteen Rabbit, The Children’s Crusade, The Vagina Monologues, Cavalleria Rusticana, and I Pagliacci. She has toured across the UK and Canada and with The Power of One, and performed in a new musical entitled Rumpus Reading Room. Tonia was the National Anthem soloist for the Toronto Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre and for the Toronto Rock at the Air Canada Centre.
Hungarian-born Mezzo-Soprano Margaret Bárdos is in growing demand as a versatile performer, having appeared in Europe, NYC, as well as with many of Ontario’s choirs and orchestras. With a voice described by Opera Canada as “mellow, fruity, that caresses the ears”, recent highlights include the Dora-award winning premier of Schafer’s The Children’s Crusade, galas for the National Ballet and the Stratford Shakespeare Festival, La Badessa in Puccini’s Suor Angelica, and Cherubin (Massenet). Critically praised for her acting and interpretation, recent collaborations include those with Out of the Box Productions, InterArts Matrix, Stratford Summer Music and the True North Brass. She continues an association with the award winning Hamilton Children’s Choir, MT Space Theater in Kitchener, the Institute for the Music and the Mind at McMaster University, Hamilton, maintains soloist position at All Saints’ Kingsway Anglican, Toronto, and is a member of the studio of Tom Schilling. margaretbardos.ca
