Scottish-Canadian reggae artist and visionary, Jason Wilson & English fiddle legend, Dave Swarbrick are touring their new CD, Lion Rampant, a breathtaking mixture of folk and reggae surveying the history of those rebel musics that have traversed back and forth across the “Black Atlantic” for the past three centuries. The album includes both traditional and self-penned titles, as well as a few modern covers. Alongside a host of genre-stretching originals, we find a Morris set, some Scottish trad and so much more. Having located the intersections of various rebel musics of the past three hundred years, Wilson & Swarbrick – with help from their friends and Wilson’s fantastic Canadian quintet – invite you to join their folky, jazzy, punky reggae party! Jason Wilson is a two-time Juno-Awards nominee and Canadian Reggae Music Award winner. Known for incorporating jazz and Scottish and English folk influences atop a reggae foundation, Wilson is a multi-instrumentalist although is perhaps best known for his piano skills. The singer-songwriter has performed and recorded with UB40, Alanis Morissette, Pee Wee Ellis, Dave Swarbrick, Ron Sexsmith, The Mighty Sparrow, Percy Sledge, David Francey and many more.
Wilson has also been featured on many radio and television shows including a special mini-documentary entitled ‘The Grateful Dread’ that appeared on The National with Peter Mansbridge. Similarly, Wilson’s life was featured in a documentary on BBC radio. With intriguing lyrical imagery – mostly culled from moments in history – Wilson presents a uniquely irresistible take on the Jamaican art form that is reggae.

Dave Swarbrick: At the age of six he learnt the rudiments of the fiddle from a local fiddler, and at the age of 15 he started touring and recording extensively with such names As Ewan Maccoll, Peggy Seeger and Charles Parker. Dave’s lifelong passion for folk music was born in those busy years. After working with many more of the folk legends of the time, in 1969 Dave joined FAIRPORT CONVENTION and his contribution to folk and folk/rock music is now legendary and well-documented.
Since his double lung transplant operation in October 2004 Swarb continues to confound the press and the medical profession, and has toured Britain, Europe and Australia playing with his band, Swarb’s Lazarus. He received the highest award from the English Folk Dance and Song Society, the Gold Badge, in 2002 and the Gold Badge of Merit from the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters, again their highest accolade, in 2003. In 2004 Swarb received a Lifetime Achievement Award in the annual BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. In 2008 he won the Hancock Award for Musician of the Year and in 2010 He released ‘Raison d’être’, his first solo album for nearly 20 years. Backed by a startling array of guest musicians, including a Canadian reggae outfit (The Jason Wilson Band), Swarb produced one of the greatest and most innovative albums of his long career.

Paul Woolner was the songwriter and lead vocalist for the band, Kit Carson, who performed across Canada and shared the stage with the likes of Jerry Jeff Walker and Ellen McIlwaine. While his musical voice is unmistakably rooted in folk, rock and blues, Woolner skillfully layers other influences from his varied palette including Latin, punk and reggae into many of his songs. Suitably Ragged is his third recording with Limehouse, – capturing the organic vibe of the music and collective spirit of the artists. The result is heartfelt, authentic and skillfully-realized music that will appeal and speak to a wide range of listeners.
