Shelley Marshall Presents: “Hold Mommy’s Cigarette”: April 18 & 19
HELD OVER! Shelley Marshall Presents: The Award Winning Production “Hold Mommy’s Cigarette”: April 18 & 19. All One Woman’s story of an unfiltered life, written and performed by Shelley Marshall, directed by Linda Kash. It seems appropriate that world renowned Comedienne, Marshall would open her autobiographical One Woman Show in the city where the story and star were born. It took 10 years for Marshall to create this Play and it is the rewarding result of resilience, recovery, and reflection while exploring many genres of performance including elements of clown, stand up, improv, buffoon, and play. Shelley Marshall takes her audience many places; “I take them on an adventure, both emotionally and visually. There is no denying that my story is tragic, but it’s my story and time and writing without shame has been my comedic relief. ‘Hold Mommy’s Cigarette’ is not an exploitation of what has happened in my life, but rather, an acceptance of where it may lead. It is a dark comedy, a vulnerable piece about life, mental illness and survival.” Marshall reveals with a smile. She invites you to come to her show with an open mind and promises you’ll leave with a full heart. *Mature Content* http://www.holdmommyscigarette.com Tickets available at http://www.thepearlcompany.ca or 524-0606. Marshall has had a colourful career so far. After graduating from Second City, where she formally studied improv, Marshall embarked on a world tour adventure where she studied street performers in Paris and London, travelled and headlined her Stand Up in 11 countries, including South Africa, Spain, England, and even sat in The Royal Albert Hall where she watched Stephen Fry, a long time personal icon. Additionally, Marshall was the first Canadian Female Comedienne to be invited to The Amsterdam Comedy Festival in 2011 and has toured as the opening act for Puppetry of the Penis throughout Canada and their opening night off Broadway in New York City.
Marshall’s success within the international comedy scene was something that caught her off guard, “As a Woman beginning my career close to my 40s, I’ve never fit within the “comedy scene”, because of this, I felt most comfortable never staying in one place.
Marshall’s notoriety also includes Best New Discovery Now Magazine, Best Female Stand Up Canadian Comedy Award nominee, 3 years as Host of The Hamilton Music Awards, guest starring roles on The Ron James Show, acting in the award winning short movie, “The Auction”, several commercials, and Producer of the smash hit “The Full Bawdy Comedy Show”.
