Alyssa Giammaria: Farewell Concert: Sunday, July 23
Alyssa Giammaria: Farewell Concert: Sunday, July 23. Doors 6:30; Show 7:00pm. $20 / $15 students. Alyssa Giammaria will be moving to New York City for school in the fall, and is putting on one last show for her friends and family as a chance to gather with everyone before leaving her hometown. She will be joined by Adrean Farrugia (piano), Pat Collins (Bass), Adam Inrig (Drums), as well as Aoife-Louise Doyle and Leah Korkowski on back up vocals.
The above is Alyssa’s plain (and true) statement about her concert. One of her Mohawk music teacher, Sophia Perlman (jazz-singer, songwriter, etc) flipped at the humility of the above, polled Alyssa’s fellow student’s for comments, and added her own. Most have to be under “Read More” but check this out: “Alyssa Giammaria (‘the humble prodigy’) is a beautiful soul with outstanding talent.” “I can’t wait to see what New York does for her, and what she does for New York.” “a willingness to not only foster her already impressive understanding of her craft but to also continually seek out new challenges and opportunities…” “I’ll miss her creative mind and her impeccable musicianship and integrity.” See more below…
I first met Alyssa as a fairly new teacher at Mohawk College – as in I was new-ish at teaching college and new-ish to Mohawk, and new-ish to Hamilton all at the same time.
Alyssa belonged to a really wonderful year of students who all taught me so much about how to teach, and how to listen and how to help people on their journey. To be honest, I never felt like Alyssa needed much help. Which made the fact that she came in every week, determined, and with a list of a thousand questions all the more wonderful.
I’ll miss her creative mind and her impeccable musicianship and integrity. But more than that, I’m going to miss my weekly reminder of how once you dedicate yourself to being a student of music, it never really stops. She has inspired to me to throw open new doors in my own creative practice, as she set an example by fearlessly taking on whatever came next. There is no doubt in my mind that this next adventure will be the same. Sophia Perlman, teacher, jazz-singer, singer, songwriter and more…

Alyssa Giammaria (‘the humble prodigy’) is a beautiful soul with outstanding talent, who has made going to college with an absolute blessing. As a classmate, I listened intently because I knew I was going to learn something, and as a colleague, we fit like glue, like our voices were from the same instrument – because her ear will follow you with ease, and yours will follow her intently. Forever a mentor, forever a colleague, forever a best friend, she will dearly missed by her Hamiltonians, and dearly loved by the lucky New Yorkers that get ot greet her into their world’ – Aiofe- Louise Doyle, Singer, songwriter, musician, -New Alumnus and former classmate at Mohawk College, band mate.

“There was One Voice I heard in 1st year that for me was already ‘Next to Perfect’ & in 2nd year I heard her hands touch a piano for the first time, it was “Phenomenal” & by third year I am not only proud to see her living her dreams but also fully open to experimenting to reach untapped potential the world has yet to see.
