Second Sunday Sing-Alongs! @ 2:00pm. September 9, October 14, and so on.

Second Sunday Sing-Alongs! Every 2nd Sunday @ 2:00pm. August 12, Sept. 9, and so on.  PWYC (pay what you feel you can.). Starting in May The Pearl Company is opening its doors to a Community Sing-Second-Sunday-Sing_05_18Along. Every second Sunday of every month at 2 o’clock we invite the Hamilton community to come and raise your voices. We will be singing Great Old Tunes from the 60s, 70s and onward. Inspired by the “Rise Up” songbook, another legacy of Pete Seeger. Let’s join our voices and remember the way we used to sing and dream and set our voices free.  So bring something to strum or hum or shake.  SING YOU SOON!
Hosted by Howard Jerome – who really was singing folk songs in Greenwich Village in the sixties – and who tells great stories!

DALA! Saturday, June 23

Dala: Saturday, June 23. 8:00pm. Tickets: $30 / $25 Students/Seniors. Juno nominees and winners ofDala the 2010 Canadian Folk Music Award for Vocal Group of the Year, Amanda Walther and Sheila Carabine of Dala write and sing in harmony best described as angelic. Darlings of the Canadian music scene, Dala are poised to bring their fresh brand of acoustic pop music to the world. Drawing upon influences like The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young and Bob Dylan, Dala write songs that are both catchy and insightful. Amanda’s ethereal soprano voice blends seamlessly with Sheila’s velvety alto, creating the lush harmonies that have become their trademark. The sheer joy with which they perform is infectious; they are equally entertaining between songs, telling funny and down to earth stories that make every show unique. Dala have opened for artists such as Tom Cochrane, Richie Havens, Arlo Guthrie, and joined Stuart McLean on the CBC’s Vinyl Café. They have performed at The New Orleans Jazz Festival, The Edmonton Folk Festival, California’s Strawberry Festival and Mariposa. In 2009, they were the only Canadian act invited to play at the 50th Anniversary of the Newport Folk Festival. www.dalagirls.com

The Bear: May 31, June 1 – 2 @ 8pm June 3 @ 2pm, June 7 – 9 @ 8pm. Tickets: $20  Chekhov’s story invites us into the world of a widow, whose grief for her dead husband keeps her entombed in her TheBear_06_18own house. Her servant begs her to rejoin the world of the living, but the mourning widow hasn’t the will. A dashing man raps on the door. It seems the widow’s deceased husband borrowed a tidy sum from this gentleman and he is now desperate to have the loan repaid. The widow has neither the cash nor the inclination. A war of wills ensues as Chekhov massages their battle into a comedic frenzy. Maybe, just maybe, while living amongst the debris of profound loss, might a second chance at love come knocking combatively at the door?

Taylor Sutherland directs. With Concetta Roche, Ira Henderson, Patti Zonta, Gary Santucci
