Promise Made Promise Broken: A Basic Income Awareness Event · Friday, Sept. 28

Promise Made Promise Broken: A Basic Income Awareness Event · Hosted by This Mad PromisesBroken_09_18Desire: Friday, September 28, Doors: 7:00pm. Show: 7:30. Hamilton had been the subject of a pilot project study on Universal Basic Income that had recently started and was expected to last three years. It was canceled almost as soon as it started by the newly-elected Government of Ontario leaving the many recipients who have signed lease agreements, started new businesses, and returned to school, etc. all out in the lurch.

The newest member Jessie Golem has become something of a poster child for the backlash in the media, having been featured in Huffington Post, CBC, and even the Toronto Sun!

Because we are all concerned about this, we have decided to host an evening with music, speakers, info, etc.
More details coming soon, True Believers! Expect This Mad Desire (Mackenzie Kristjon) and Willow River (Dave Pomfret and Brennagh Burns). Plus plus.

“HOLD MOMMY’S CIGARETTE”: Thursday, Sept. 13 – Friday,14. Adding Saturday 15!

“HOLD MOMMY’S CIGARETTE”: Thursday, September 13 – Friday, 14.  Adding Saturday 15!  Doors: 7:30pm. Show: HoldMommy's_09_188:00. Tickets: $30 – Advance Only. Hold Mommy’s Cigarette is an autobiographical one woman show that shares Shelley’s intimate journey through mental illness, the suicide of her father, her own suicide attempt and the e?ects that have lingered throughout her life.  Shelley takes her audience on a journey of joy and laughter with some moments of shock and awe. It’s in the truth of the characters that Shelley brings to life; where tragedy and comedy become one. It’s Shelley’s openness to explore taboo subjects that still raises eyebrows, the reason why she has been described as “sexy, satrical and sharply intelligent”. This is a story of the letting go of ages and ?nding truth beneath the layers of lives lost and loves found. Shelley invites you to enjoy her performance with an open mind and perhaps you’ll leave with a fuller heart. *Mature Content*  http://www.holdmommyscigarette.com     https://www.facebook.com/events/1438601786284130/   Email Shelley for Tickets: shelleymarshall@shelleymarshall.com

Fin de Fiesta Flamenco: “SALVAJE”. Saturday, September 8

Fin de Fiesta Flamenco: “SALVAJE”. Saturday, September 8. Doors: 7:30. Show: 8:00. Tickets: $22 in advance/ $25 at the door.  Direct from Spain – Fin de Fiesta Flamenco dance and music ensemble FindeFiestaSALVAJE_09_18presents SALVAJE, an untamed new production that explores the wild, unrestrained side of one of the world’s most passionate and intense art forms: flamenco. Featuring live guitar, song, flute, percussion and two dancers, SALVAJE, means “wild,” and pays homage to flamenco’s rough-and-tumble origins.
The searing vocals of Alejandro Mendia (France) are accompanied by the intricate guitar arpeggios of Dennis Duffin (Canada) and the haunting flute melodies of Lara Wong (Vancouver/Madrid). Dancer Lia Grainger (2017 Certamen New York International Flamenco Competition finalist) brings the stage to life with fierce and sensual choreographies and improvisations and Hanser Gomez (Cuba) holds down the rhythm on cajon. Deborah “La Caramelita” (France) will also join the ensemble as a special guest dancer for this tour only.

“An absolutely breathtaking performance.” — The Whole Note    WWW.FINDEFIESTAFLAMENCO.COM   Tickets: https://www.ticketscene.ca/events/21337/

Second Sunday Sing-Alongs! Every 2nd Sunday @ 2:00pm. August 12, Sept. 9, and so on.  PWYC (pay what you feel you can.). Starting in May The Pearl Company is opening its doors to a Community Sing-Second-Sunday-Sing_05_18Along. Every second Sunday of every month at 2 o’clock we invite the Hamilton community to come and raise your voices. We will be singing Great Old Tunes from the 60s, 70s and onward. Inspired by the “Rise Up” songbook, another legacy of Pete Seeger. Let’s join our voices and remember the way we used to sing and dream and set our voices free.  So bring something to strum or hum or shake.  SING YOU SOON!
Hosted by Howard Jerome – who really was singing folk songs in Greenwich Village in the sixties – and who tells great stories!
